Every so often, an opportunity comes along that reminds you why sharing your story matters.

For ABCD Concepts, one of the highlights of 2026 was being invited to appear on Cape Talk for two consecutive weeks, an incredible opportunity to speak about the work we do, the communities we represent, and the role of community-led tourism in shaping a more inclusive visitor economy.

Being featured on one of Cape Town’s leading radio stations was both an honour and a proud milestone for our organisation.

Celebrating Heritage and Culture with Clarence Ford

Our first interview was on the legendary Clarence Ford’s Mid-Morning Show, where selected members of Cape Town Tourism were invited to share their stories as part of a series celebrating heritage and culture.

It was a privilege to sit with one of South Africa’s most respected broadcasters and speak about the journey of ABCD Concepts over the past decade.

The conversation focused on our passion for community-led tourism and how authentic local experiences allow visitors to connect with the real stories, people, and cultures that make Cape Town such a unique destination.

We also reflected on the importance of ensuring that local communities are not only included in tourism but are active participants and beneficiaries of the visitor economy.

For us, heritage is not only found in historic buildings or museums, it is found in everyday life, in local entrepreneurs, neighbourhood stories, food traditions, music, and the people who proudly call these communities home.

A Return to Cape Talk During Youth Month

The following week brought another exciting opportunity.

This time, we joined Lester Kiewit on the Breakfast Show for a special Youth Month broadcast from one of Cape Town’s most iconic landmarks, City Hall.

Sharing the platform with Shireen, a Board Member of Cape Town Tourism, we discussed the importance of youth participation in tourism and how young people continue to shape the future of our industry.

Broadcasting from the historic City Hall added even greater significance to the conversation, particularly during Youth Month a time dedicated to recognising the contribution, resilience, and potential of South Africa’s young people.

The discussion highlighted how tourism can create opportunities for employment, entrepreneurship, skills development, and leadership, particularly within communities such as Khayelitsha.

Sharing Local Stories with Authentic Voices

One of the greatest privileges of these interviews was the opportunity to tell our own story.

Too often, conversations about township communities happen without the voices of the people who live and work there.

At ABCD Concepts, we believe that authentic stories should be shared by local people who understand the history, culture, challenges, and opportunities of their own communities.

Every day we welcome visitors into Khayelitsha and other communities with honesty, pride, and authenticity.

Being able to extend those conversations onto a platform like Cape Talk allowed us to reach thousands of listeners while helping to challenge misconceptions and celebrate the richness of community life.

More Than Radio Interviews

These interviews represented far more than media exposure.

They were an opportunity to advocate for community-led tourism.

To celebrate local entrepreneurship.

To highlight the importance of cultural heritage.

And to encourage more people to explore Cape Town beyond its traditional tourism routes.

We hope these conversations inspire listeners to visit our communities with curiosity, openness, and a willingness to experience Cape Town through the eyes of the people who call it home.

Looking Ahead

Appearing on Cape Talk for two consecutive weeks remains one of the standout moments in our journey.

We are grateful to Cape Town Tourism for creating opportunities for members to share their stories and to both Clarence Ford and Lester Kiewit for providing a platform to discuss the work that continues to shape our communities.

As ABCD Concepts continues to grow, we remain committed to telling authentic local stories, creating meaningful tourism experiences, and ensuring that community voices remain at the centre of every conversation.

Every interview.

Every tour.

Every partnership.

Every story shared brings us one step closer to building a more inclusive, representative, and community-driven tourism industry for Cape Town.
